Husqvarna 181 se

Postby scottfarm » Sep 10th, '09, 21:26

I have a Husqvarna 181 SE serial #6030735. Magnus told me he thought it was a 1986 model. Anybody know for sure what year and what is the horsepower. I also have a Husqvarna L65 serial # 1068465 also would like to know the year and horsepower for it. This information would be helpful in ordering parts for it. Thanks a million in advance. What a great site. I too am a sawaholic.

Here is a pick of the 181 and the L65 if it helps. I know, I need to clean up my shop.

The 181se is easy - Magnus is right about the age (so it is one of the last before the improved and officially stronger 281xp) - official power specs of the 181 were 4.0kW/5.45hp vs. 4.2kW/5.7hp for the 281xp.
On the flip side, the 181 is very popular for building race saws, the 281xp never was....... :hairpull:

The L65 is older, but it is hard to say how much, as the serial numbers didn't tell the story back then - does it say just Husqvarna on the plate, or does it say TOMOS as well?.
Power spec was 3.6hp, as far as I know.

Here is the tricky part...

181 was introduced in '82. The 281 '85 and last was 288 in '88..
Latest IPL I have founds of the 181 is from '84

The 65 was introduced in 1966.
3,6HP 7kg 65cc

The 181SE was 5,5HP 80,7cc 6,8KG, 181SG7,0Kg

This is the last version of the 65 with the round decal on starter... I think around 1970 is a fair date for it
It was partially made by Tomos, I think assembly was there at this point.
Later it was made parts there for it too and that made it a Yugoslavia production so plate was changed.

The 181 and 281 Huskeys were made long enough ago before they started detuning saw engines . People that have never seen these two models which are nearly identical will swear they have been souped up the first time they see them run even though they are in fact stock .

These are fine old saws ,made when they put out power as well as plenty of oil on the bar ..
