Pioneer P28E, P28

Post by Goball » Sep 13th, '10, 04:08

Picked this saw up today. Good compression and spark but haven't tried starting yet. Noticed same model on Mike Acre's site has a chain brake. This one has a fixed safety handle but that's all. Maybe the early models didn't have the brake. Goball

This saw is based on the P28. Orange in colour and has decals similar to a Farmsaw. I beleive they were intended for overseas sales but the deal fell through. The saws were scrapped by Pioneer. A few made it out.

Pioneer P28

Interesting to see the different variants in the previous posts. Four saws, three different constructions for the clutch cover and hand guard or brake.

Here are some images of my P28 in Pioneer yellow without hand guard (or brake for that matter), same as the orange saw oploaded by sloanjeff.

The serial no. on mine is 1276922, so that must be an early one I suppose. No idea for the date on it though.

It carries an original Pioneer bar: PIONEER 474633, 14-058-325, MADE IN CANADA 1-7, ?AT 1975

No work done on any of my saws yet (need to get my workshop set up for it first), so this is as dirty as it came :embarressed:

P28ES

Post by Pudding4brains » May 19th, '17, 15:40

Meantime I've stumbled on a version with chain brake. The type shield will have it to be a "P28ES". Manufactured in 1981 it would seem ...

Here are the two side by side:

Serial on the P28ES:

The clutch is different on both.
